About Us
The City of Lawrence Department of Equity and Inclusion lead the development and implementation of equity and inclusion initiatives aligned with the City’s Strategic Plan. The Department provides guidance, training, and expertise to City staff to ensure that policies, practices, and decisions reflect the City’s commitment to fairness, access, and accountability.
Informed by research, best practices, and community and organizational feedback, the Department works to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into the City’s operations and culture. This work is grounded in civil rights and equal opportunity law, public administration, and equity-centered frameworks that address historical and structural disparities – ensuring equity is an integral part of how the City of Lawrence plans, leads, and serves all residents.
Motivation
Shaped by community voice and guided by the City of Lawrence Strategic Plan, our equity and inclusion work focuses on improving access, removing barriers, and strengthening outcomes across City services. This approach helps ensure that all residents are served fairly and that Lawrence remains a welcoming, accountable, and responsive community for all people.
