Every week, one Parking Control Officer lays down their ticketing machine and works to clean up Downtown Lawrence. By picking up trash, performing maintenance tasks, removing crude graffiti, power-washing sidewalks, and much more, Downtown Ambassadors help to beautify and bolster Lawrence’s largest district for business and entertainment.
Beginning in July 2020, the Downtown Ambassador Program brought parking enforcement back to work while the COVID-19 crisis was at its peak. While the program went on hiatus after the City reinstated parking enforcement, the program returned in April 2023 and remains strong today. Currently, Downtown Ambassadors roam Lawrence from the Kansas River to South Park from 8:45 a.m. to 5:50 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Our Main Priorities
Maintenance
Keeping our city equipment functional is our most important job. By refurbishing or replacing city infrastructure, we strive to ensure the best experience for visitors and residents alike in Downtown Lawrence.

Beautification
We believe the best downtown district in the U.S. should also be the cleanest. Every day ambassadors remove trash, clean out parking lots, and paint over crude graffiti on City property.

Visitor Assistance
Are you curious about good spots to grab dinner in Lawrence? Are you unsure about parking regulations? Our Downtown Ambassadors are happy to help with information, recommendations, and more.

Safety
We’re committed to keeping Downtown Lawrence safe and welcoming for all. While out on patrol, Ambassadors and Parking Control Officers keep watch and are quick to inform law enforcement of disturbances.
