The Community Building, located at 115 W. 11th St., is a historic recreation and fitness facility that offers space for community programs, activities, sports, and special events.

The Community Building will remain open and free to City residents and youth in 2027. Patrons will still need an access card to enter the building, but the cards are free. Access cards help us collect the data needed to understand facility use and plan for future needs.
For safety and security, Ring cameras are located at the elevator entrance and north entrance, where patrons ring the doorbell for entry. These measures help us keep the facility safe while ensuring we have the information needed to manage the space effectively.
Constructed in 1940, the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., was originally designed as an armory. It now serves as a recreational and fitness facility for the entire Lawrence population. The building has been renovated since and has been a popular place for everything from playing basketball to holding a wedding reception.
