Help Keep Lawrence Parks Clean

The Adopt-A-Park program gives organizations, community groups, families, and other volunteers an opportunity to help keep Lawrence parks clean and free of trash and debris.

Participants commit to cleaning their adopted park at least four times during the calendar year.

How the Program Works

1. Choose a Park

Groups may request a specific park to adopt, depending on availability. Parks, Recreation and Culture staff can also assign a park to your group.

2. Select Your Clean-Up Dates

Groups are asked to schedule at least four clean-up dates during the calendar year.

Please notify Parks, Recreation and Culture at least one week before each scheduled clean-up so staff can coordinate trash removal.

3. Pick Up Supplies

Parks, Recreation and Culture provides trash bags for Adopt-A-Park clean-ups.

Trash bags can be picked up at:

Community Building
115 W. 11th St.
Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

4. Clean Your Park

Collect trash and debris throughout your adopted park and place all collected trash together in a predetermined designated area for removal.

Participant Responsibilities

Groups participating in the Adopt-A-Park program are asked to:

• Complete at least four park clean-ups each calendar year.
• Notify Parks, Recreation and Culture at least one week before each scheduled clean-up.
• Have at least one adult age 18 or older participate in the clean-up.
• Conduct clean-ups during daylight hours.
• Use the buddy system when possible.
• Respect other visitors using the park.
• Follow all park rules and regulations.
• Avoid trespassing onto private property adjacent to park land.
• Place collected trash in the designated area after the clean-up is complete.

Safety Information

Parks, Recreation and Culture staff are available to discuss safety considerations before your group's clean-up.

Participants should be aware that park clean-up activities may involve potential hazards, including natural and hazardous materials, plants such as poison ivy, uneven terrain, and other environmental conditions. Participants acknowledge these potential hazards and assume the risk of injury associated with participating in the program.

Groups should report concerns such as:

• Vandalism

• Unsafe tree limbs

• Damaged playground equipment

• Other unsafe conditions or park concerns
