Moving Out of Lawrence?

Start, Stop, or Transfer Utility Service Early

If you are moving, submit your utility service request as early as possible so your start, stop, or transfer can happen close to your move date. Move-out season can be busy, and planning ahead helps avoid delays.

Leave City Trash and Recycling Carts at Your Address

City trash and recycling carts stay with the address where they were delivered. Please do not take them with you when you move. Brown yard waste carts can be moved to your new home or left for the next resident.

Recycle Boxes and Other Accepted Materials

Moving usually creates a lot of cardboard, paper, and other recyclable materials. Break down cardboard boxes and place accepted recyclables in your recycling cart.

Request Pickup for Large or Bulky Items

If you have large items that do not fit in your cart, such as couches, appliances, or tires, submit a Large Item Pick-Up request. Please do not leave bulky items at the curb without scheduling service first.

Dispose of Hazardous Materials Safely

Paint, automotive products, household cleaners, pesticides, and other hazardous materials should not go in the trash or recycling. Use the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for safe disposal of these materials.

Quick Move-Out Checklist

Before you leave, make sure you:

  • Start, stop, or transfer utility service
  • Leave City trash and recycling carts at the address
  • Break down and recycle boxes
  • Request pickup for bulky items if needed
  • Set aside hazardous materials for proper disposal
  • Remove all trash and personal items from the property
