Built in 1904 with a $27,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Building served as Lawrence’s public library until 1972. It later housed the Lawrence Arts Center and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Renovated by the City in 2009-2010, it reopened in 2011 and now serves as a public event space.
