No Classes, No Problem: LKPD’s School Resource Officers Boost Downtown Patrols

A summer program brought School Resource Officers (SRO’s) out of the classrooms and onto the streets.
Officers Lindsay Bishop and Dan Affalter enjoyed the temporary transition.
Once the final bell rang, these officers headed downtown to serve the community by supplementing the dedicated downtown patrol officers. With all the excitement the World Cup celebrations brought, downtown officers appreciated the back up to help ensure everyone was safe.
They all worked together, getting to know the business owners and downtown visitors.. “This summer has been one of the best summers in a long time… really enjoyed working with Zook and seeing all the relationships he has formed with these business partners.” Says SRO Lindsay Bishop.
You may have seen these officers walking, biking, or driving by in their patrol vehicles in the downtown area, keeping the community safe and secure. The extra hands in the downtown area have allowed for there to be a full week’s worth of coverage, increasing safety.
As for the officers who work downtown on a regular basis, Officer Eric Dawson says, “It’s been busy, it’s been hot, but it’s been nice having the SROs with us. The extra coverage during FIFA was incredibly helpful.”
Officer Taylor Zook, also dedicated to downtown, appreciates Bishop’s unique experience as a former social worker saying, “It’s been amazing getting to work with the different people in our department. Officer Bishop has an incredible skillset; she took a completely different path than I have and she is incredibly knowledgeable.”
The SROs have enjoyed the change of pace and a fresh setting as well. SRO Dan Affalter says, “Getting to see all of the kids you work with in schools out and about in their daily lives has been so cool.”
