City of Lawrence announces Labor Day holiday closures
City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday.
SOLID WASTE: There will be no change in residential or commercial routes. Trash, recycling, and yard waste will operate as normal. However, there will be:
- No roll-off services on the holiday.
- No cart/dumpster swaps, deliveries, or maintenance on the holiday.
- No bulk item pick ups (from work orders in Lucity/SeeClickFix) on the holiday.
The Compost Facility will be open as normal.
PARKING: Parking meters, lots and garages in Downtown Lawrence will be free to use on Monday, Sept. 7.
TRANSIT: There will be no public transit service on Labor Day. Fixed-route, paratransit, and on-demand buses will not operate. Central Station will also be closed. For more details on bus schedules, visit the service calendar at: .
PARKS AND RECREATION: The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 1-6 p.m. and Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Rd., will be accepting tee times from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The range will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk. All other facilities will be closed, including the Administrative Office in South Park (which houses the cemeteries office) at 1141 Massachusetts St., Prairie Park Nature Center at 2730 Harper St., Sports Pavilion Lawrence at 100 Rock Chalk Lane, the Community Building at 115 W. 11th St., Holcom Park Recreation Center at 2700 W. 27th St., and East Lawrence Recreation Center at 1245 E. 15th St.
The Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., is closed for the season and for renovations.
There will be no unified recreation programs, lifelong recreation or fitness, dance, martial arts, instructional classes, open gym, gymnastics, or ninja being held on Monday, Sept. 7. There are also no adult or youth sports taking place on the holiday.
All cemeteries will be open throughout the day, including Oak Hill Cemetery, Maple Grove Cemetery, and Memorial Park Cemetery.
