What is your superpower?

Knowing that every person responds differently to sexual trauma; no one can predict or control their response to it or know how it will affect them in the short term or future.I stay appraised of new research and best practices in providing a trauma informed response to those impacted by sexual violence. I think often of a quote by Hannah Gadsby, "There is never a straight line to be found through a life punctuated by trauma."

Tell us a weird fact you happen to know for no reason.

A young platypus is called a platypup.

What would be your walk-up song?

"Victorious" by Motherwolf

What is your favorite place in Lawrence?

Frasier Hall, where my mind was enriched; and Liberty Hall, where my husband and I were married. We had booked Danforth Chapel for the wedding ceremony and Liberty Hall for the reception, but a spring microburst damaged the chapel's roof a couple of weeks before the wedding and all the booked weddings there were cancelled. We decided to have the wedding ceremony at Liberty Hall, which was fantastic. We enjoy going to shows there, too.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

Holding sexual offenders accountable and, if possible, helping to minimize the shame that victims often feel. “Shame has to change sides” - Gisèle Pelicot.
